New SketchUp Images + Short clip on stair materiality

This is a short clip I found which is about timber stairs and describes a bit of the construction. It relates to my stairs because of the same material used and is similar in appearance for one of my designs. It also shows an important element stairs should have, which is steadiness and durability.

My second concept section sketch which expresses the words 'spontaneous' and 'woodblocks'

These stairs where designed during my initial section drawing. However,

I have decided to choose my second design and to go with these stairs.

Materials - Fiona Hall and Rosalie Gascoigne

Fiona Hall - Understorey [1999-2004]

In the artwork 'Understorey' Hall has used a variety of materials such as glass beads, silver wire, rubber bath plugs, plastic showerrose, boar's teeth and a vitrine for containing the works in. These are a mixture of natural and synthetic materials to portray the existence of both. The glass beads are threaded tightly together which gives a rough but cool touch to it. The carefully beaded 3 dimensional installation has taken Hall 4 years to complete. Thus, the detailed camouflaged colours of the work which brings it to life.


Rosalie Gascoigne - Wool Clip [1995]

Gascoigne's 'Wool Clip' is basically made out of sawn wood on craftboard. This gives an uneven, rough and jagged texture to the artwork. Woodblocks are carefully grouped together with the centre area differing slightly from the surrounding timber. By using only this authentic material itself, it successfully engages its audience by its simplicity. She has chosen to use worn out looking timber because she believes this will portray more about origin and time. Although she may not have the talent for other things such as painting or drawing, even curator Kelly Gellatly comments that Gascoigne has "an amazing ability to find beauty in ordinary things".

Design I have chosen for my initial SketchUp model

This was basically the initial design I chose to draw on SketchUp. I quite like this design because boxed shapes which creates an alternating effect. It also separated the studio into different levels of different sizes

SECTIONS OF STAIRS

CARLO SCARPA & ROSS LOVEGROVE

These stairs has taken a very interesting design so I decided to draw their sections. The shapes were pretty distinct and broke the rules of how traditional stairs should look like normally.

BEFORE STUDIO

A. My best piece of creative artwork at High School.

One of the three drawings I did for my HSC Body of Work named 'The cut off past". It shows the hand of my mother doing her usual work at home, revealing the cut off section on her index finger. The most difficult thing about this work was drawing the wrinkles and other details on her skin.

B. A great piece of architecture.

This building is called the 'Leonardo Glass Cube' which was made for a German company. I found this piece of architecture really interesting because it looks so modern and blended in with its surroundings. It makes the environment so much more peaceful and looks so harmonious.

C. An original photograph of something beautiful.

A picture I took outside one of the many hotels in Sydney. This water feature was set before the entrance which makes people want to take a photo of it before they go in the hotel. It is definitely considered as one of the most beautiful highlights of the place, with colourful lights lightening up this fountain during night time.
